Tenor, William Davenport, is a native of Rockville, MD but currently resides with his wife and children in San Jose, Costa Rica. Singing has taken him all over the country and throughout Europe, but it was a last minute call that brought him to Costa Rica to jump into a production of the Elixir of Love. The ‘elixir’ in this particular production was especially potent! That lucky singing engagement would eventually lead to an even luckier wedding engagement to his beautiful stage partner, and now wife. As lovely as Costa Rica is, William loves having opportunities to sing nearer to his hometown, and especially with old friends. As a youngster, he had the great privilege to sing with Mrs Dubose and the Montgomery County Honors Chorus, so this is a return home in many ways. After the holidays, William will make a return to the Sarasota Opera to perform the role of Tonio in the Daughter of the Regiment. Having just finished his first semester teaching voice at Southern Virginia University, William is invigorated to have found an additional conduit to channel his passion for music and singing. He is a graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins where he studied, and continues to study, with esteemed tenor, and teacher extraordinaire, Dr Stanley Cornett.
